Ubani: A place where one goes to get wealth or resources
Ubani E. Ukuku is an attorney and community advocacy consultant, passionate about bringing justice to the community through the work of advocacy.
A former public defender and justice and care pastor, Ubani has advocated for close to a decade in the community, while creating systems and structures for others to do the same.
As a public defender, she represented thousands of under-served, indigent adults and children in the child welfare and adult criminal system. A passionate advocate in and out of the courtroom, Ubani was awarded the Rising Star Award by the Arizona Public Defender’s Association in recognition of her high-quality representation and demonstrated commitment to serving the underserved.
The time Ubani spent working in public defense with community partners allowed her to see the important role businesses, organizations, and individuals play in bringing about justice for underserved communities.
The key, she found, was helping community partners and individuals recognize the ways in which they could utilize their resources and meet those needs. This ultimately led Ubani to take a two-year break from practicing law to go on staff at a 2000-person church located in downtown Phoenix, to build a justice and care ministry.
While on staff, Ubani combined her skills as a lawyer with her keen understanding and experience working with at-risk populations and the community.
Her unique background allowed her to develop three justice-focused initiatives for the church, build an infrastructure to address needs within the church and outside of it, and create and maintain partnerships aligned with each initiative.
Ubani helped increased overall engagement prior to departing and founding Ubani E. Ukuku Consulting LLC, a community advocacy and justice consulting and coaching firm helping make businesses, organizations, and leaders more impactful in the community.
True to her Nigerian name, Ubani is a wealth of knowledge and well of resources for all she works with.
